Thanassi Panagiotaras C.S.I. is a Melbourne-based post-production finishing specialist and founder of TP Studio, with 25 years of experience across colour grading, online editing, mastering, deliverables, archival restoration and AI and synthetic production. His work spans feature documentary, broadcast television, streaming platforms, branded content and campaign production.
He came into the industry at the exact moment it flipped from analog to digital. His first tools were Adobe Premiere 5.1, Apple Final Cut Pro 1.0, Adobe After Effects 4.0, and miniDV. He didn't inherit a career. He built one from the ground up, learning compositing, motion graphics, and offline editing through sheer obsession with the craft.
After completing a video production course and co-founding a production company through the early 2000s, he joined La Trobe University in 2004 as part of a full studio production team. For ten years the work was daily and relentless: multi-camera shoots, live switching, location sound, camera work, post production across every format the era could produce. It built a technical foundation most practitioners never get.
It was at La Trobe that colour grading became an obsession. Apple's Final Cut Studio introduced Color, a node-based grading application, and Thanassi was immediately drawn in. When Apple killed Final Cut Studio and Color along with it, he found DaVinci Resolve 9 and started putting himself through training on his own time and at his own expense. Master class after master class, working colourists at the top of the industry. By the time he left La Trobe in 2014, with a redundancy package that gave him the runway to go independent, he was ready.
His first freelance job was a feature film as colourist. He hasn't looked back.
Since 2014, operating as TP Studio, he has finished longform projects for Stan, ABC, and Amazon Prime Video, graded campaigns for major Australian and international brands, and delivered broadcast-ready work to every major Australian network. His credits span the full post pipeline: offline editing, colour grading, online finishing, archival restoration, mastering, and deliverables, often as the sole finishing specialist across a project from first assembly to final delivery.
The archival restoration work deserves particular mention. On Suzi Q, Love in Bright Landscapes and Abebe Butterfly Song, he spent hundreds of hours processing decades-old documentary footage: Betacam, standard definition and interlaced material from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, processed frame by frame and brought up to a standard that held up on cinema screens and streaming platforms. TP Studio brings older, damaged or mixed-format footage into modern finishing pipelines through restoration, colour correction, clean-up, online finishing and delivery. It is painstaking, technically demanding work that requires both technical care and visual sensitivity. Most finishing houses won't take it on.
The AI integration came in late 2025, not from curiosity about the technology but from a client brief that demanded it. An Ocean Spray campaign for Spencer Street Station in Melbourne required animated product reveals across three physically separate screens treated as a single continuous display. There was no footage, only stills. He identified, evaluated and deployed AI generation tools under live production conditions and delivered on deadline. That first job opened the door to a discipline that has since become a core part of the studio offering.
He is now the AI production lead on The Nullarbor, a feature documentary directed by Stephen Amis, where fully synthetic AI-generated reenactments of the 1988 Knowles family UFO incident are being produced and integrated into a theatrical-standard pipeline alongside traditional documentary footage.

TP Studio is a fully calibrated boutique post-production studio operating from Melbourne. It is not a freelancer with a laptop. It is a specialist operation with 25 years of craft behind it, capable of taking a project from first cut to final delivery and now, from concept to synthetic image.
Career Arc
The industry was mid-flip from analog to digital. First tools: Adobe Premiere 5.1, Apple Final Cut Pro 1.0, Adobe After Effects 4.0, miniDV. Compositing, motion graphics, and offline editing became the foundation. Live directing and multi-camera switching experience developed early.
Co-founded a production company with five collaborators. Corporate production, live event coverage, and VJ work, creating real-time video content for major festivals. The full production workflow, worn all at once.
Ten years as part of a full studio production team. Multi-camera shoots, live switching, location sound, camera work, post production across every format the era could produce. Thousands of hours at volume. Colour grading interest developed here, through Apple Color and then DaVinci Resolve 9, pursued independently, on personal time, at personal expense.
A university restructure and redundancy package provided the runway. First freelance job: a feature film as colourist. TP Studio established.

The Brief
Two 15-second branded content executions for transit screens at Spencer Street Station. Three physically separate screens treated as one continuous canvas: Screen 1 (9:16), Screen 2 (9:16), Screen 3 (16:9). Base assets were photoshoot stills only, no footage.
The Challenge
Creating fluid, continuous motion across three screens with different aspect ratios, from static images, under a live production deadline, using tools being evaluated simultaneously for the first time.
The Workflow
The brief landed in late December. Sourcing a specialist 3D artist over the Christmas period, against the budget and the deadline, was not an option. That constraint forced the question: could this be done with AI? Two animated executions were developed simultaneously to answer it. The Clock: an AI-generated alarm clock travelling across all three screens, exploding on Screen 3 into a pack shot reveal. The Cranberry Stream: an AI-generated juice stream crossing all three screens, hitting the floor on Screen 3 and rising into a bottle reveal. AI generation tools were identified, evaluated and deployed under a live production deadline.
The Finish
Generated material assembled across all three formats, colour graded and online finished, mastered to the installation specification for each screen and delivered to deadline.
The Result
A brief that would traditionally have gone to a 3D specialist, delivered another way and running live at Spencer Street Station, Melbourne. This was TP Studio's first deliberate move into AI video generation, and the project that opened the discipline now embedded across the studio's work.

The Brief
Produce a finished TVC for Gruen's The Pitch segment on ABC. Rushes delivered Thursday evening. Broadcast-ready master required Tuesday morning. Four days from raw footage to air.
The Challenge
The footage was shot on a heavily overcast beach day. The brief required sunny beach. Every frame needed to work against what the camera recorded. Editorial shape, colour grade, online finish and broadcast delivery all inside an immovable deadline.
The Workflow
Rushes arrived Thursday night. Friday through Sunday: offline edit, agency revision rounds, picture lock. Monday afternoon: locked edit approved. Monday night through 3:30AM: colour grade and online finish. Tuesday 8AM: approval. Delivered to ABC before 9AM Tuesday morning.
The Finish
Colour grade and online finish completed Monday night through to 3:30AM, the overcast rushes carried to a sunny beach grade, every frame cleared and mastered to broadcast specification for ABC.
The Result
Delivered to ABC before 9AM Tuesday, four days from raw footage to air. The spot won The Pitch for that episode.

The Brief
Feature documentary centred on the 1988 Knowles family UFO incident on the Nullarbor Plain. The incident has never been filmed. The production required fully synthetic AI reenactments, integrated into a traditional theatrical-standard documentary pipeline alongside real location footage.
The Challenge
Integrating a full AI production pipeline across an entire feature documentary, where synthetic material spans six distinct categories: historical reenactments, protagonist encounters, surreal and expressionistic sequences, period illustrations, production gap fills, and composited interview environments. Every category of AI-generated material has to cut, match, grade and deliver to theatrical delivery standard alongside real location footage shot across two weeks on the Nullarbor Plain.
The Workflow
AI generation is not supplementary B-roll. It is embedded throughout the film from the first frame to the last. The six production categories in active development: the full multi-scene Knowles reenactments including the chase, the car becoming airborne and the family in scrub; Clark's own UAP encounter recreation; cosmos and surreal sequences including the Cocklebiddy sinkhole; historical illustrations covering Australian UFO incidents from 1947 to 1985 where no archival footage exists; production gap fills covering A-roll and B-roll that couldn't be captured on location; and AI-generated environments for archive interview compositing. Generated using the latest AI image and video models from OpenAI, Google, Kling and Seedance, alongside specialist tools selected for specific production requirements as the pipeline evolves.
The Finish
Every category of AI-generated material colour graded to match real location footage and finished to theatrical delivery standard. Colour, online, mastering and deliverables handled as one continuous operation.
